Professional dental cleanings are done by our registered dental hygienists.
Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam by the dentist and:
Calculus (tartar) removal: Calculus is hardened plaque that forms over time, and becomes firmly attached to your teeth. Calculus forms both above and below the gum line, and must be removed by a professional with access to the appropriate dental instruments.
Plaque removal: Plaque is a nearly invisible film that forms on your teeth, forming from food debris and saliva. It is also a growing colony of living bacteria, producing toxins that can inflame your gums. This inflammation can signal the beginnings of periodontal disease, a disease which can affect your general health.
Polishing: During polishing, we will remove stains that are not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.
